What's On in London? September 2024


September has arrived, marking the end of the summer months, but most certainly not of the exciting activities taking place across London.

From exciting events such as BBC Proms, The Hari Art Prize Shortlist Exhibition, and the London Design Festival, there is plenty to do in the capital this month.

So, what are you waiting for? Show some love for London and the amazing places that make up the city, by reading our ‘What’s On’ guide below:

BBC PROMS


BBC Proms has officially returned for 2024, with events taking place everyday until Saturday 24th September. Historically taking place until late September in the dazzling Royal Albert Hall, the final month of the proms will not disappoint. Expect to see a number of incredible acts such as Florence + The Machine, where Florence Welch will be performing her award-winning album with conductor James Buckley, as well as the Last Night at the Proms, which is known to be one of the biggest nights in classical music.

TOTALLY THAMES FESTIVAL


A festival wholly dedicated to celebrating London’s famous river is back again this year, taking place throughout the whole month of September. The Totally Thames Festival will run the whole 42-mile stretch of the river, showcasing art installations, pop-up performances, boating events and workshops. The biggest event of the month, however, will be the Great River Race on the 21st September, where fancy-dressed crews from across the world will speed down the Thames on wooden rowboats.

THE HARI ART PRIZE SHORTLIST EXHIBITION


From the 16th September, come down to The Hari to see the amazing artwork from those who have been shortlisted for The Hari Art Prize 2024. The annual art prize, which is now in its third year, will be exhibiting an expansive range of artwork, from grand sculptures to exquisite paintings, before the final takes place later on in the year, where a winner and two runners up will be announced. When paying a visit to The Hari, don’t forget to visit The Hari Bar, where you can stay on theme by treating yourself to one of our delicious art cocktails!

NEGRONI WEEK


Negroni Week is returning this month, celebrating one of Italy’s most loved aperitives. From the 16th to the 22nd September, bars and restaurants from all across the world will be celebrating and serving up mouth-watering Negroni’s, in support of Slow Food’s mission to foster a more sustainable and equitable world for food and beverages. Our very own Hari Bar will be featured within the mix, so why not come along to The Hari to discover for yourself what delicious concoction we have made using our very own Hari Gin!

LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL


Located across eleven design districts, the London Design Festival is a citywide celebration for a capital that is widely recognised as one of the best in the world. From the 14th to the 22nd September, the festivals installations and projects will focus on current societal themes such as AI and sustainability. Insights into play and creativity will also be heavily featured, with projects such as ‘Vert’, which looks at the idea of city life through the lens of sustainable wooden structures.

CELEBRASIA


Go on an exciting journey across South East Asia this September with Asian inspired food festival CelebrASIA. Taking place inside the Garde II listed Battersea Power Station, expect to eat your heart out whilst admiring the festivals mesmerising sculptures, lanterns and immersive installations. Be sure not to miss out on renowned chefs such as Singapore’s Old Chang Lee, Malaysia’s Roti King and many more amazing chefs cooking up delicious delicacies from across the region.

CORIOLANUS


Taking centre stage at the renowned National Theatre, William Shakespeare’s political tragedy, Coriolanus, will be returning after an eleven year hiatus. In the leading role, Hollywood Actor David Oyelowo will be making his National Theatre debut as Rome’s greatest solider. The play will follow Coriolanus as victory leads him to stand for election in high office, only for him to realise the corruption of higher power, forcing him to become enemy of the city. This is not one to be missed!

COCKTAILS IN THE CITY


See the summer out in style by attending London greatest drinks festival, taking place in Bedford Square Gardens, between the 5th and 7th September. Cocktails in the City will feature a tempting collection of London’s best bars, which will all be serving up creative concoctions for you to try over the weekend. Bars on the list include the likes of Hacha, Café Pacifico and Florattica, which will make the perfect addition to the live music, cocktail masterclasses and ice-carving sessions also on offer.

PEANUTS X ANYA HINDMARCH STATIONERY SHOP


British luxury brand, Anya Hindmarch, have opened their newest concept store on Pont Street, this time collaborating with Charles M. Schulz’s famous Peanuts comic. Perfect for those who have young ones heading back to school in the coming weeks, the store welcomes customers in through an iconic 3D yellow school bus before showcasing a brilliant collection of peanuts-inspired stationary, as well as some very special collectors items.

VAN GOGH: POETS AND LOVERS


Heralded as a once-in-a-century exhibition, head down to The National Gallery from the 14th September to see a Van Gogh exhibition like no other. The renowned gallery have acquired some of the artists most famous paintings, some of which have rarely been on display to the public, and have combined them with his extraordinary drawings to create Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers. Come along and see up-close his ‘Starry Night over the Rhône’ and ‘The Yellow House’, among many other spectacular pieces of work.
