With the hectic pace of modern life, it is inevitably difficult to relax. In fact, as long as we slow down, we can find an oasis in the hustle and bustle of the city and take a breath of fresh air. In this article, we will recommend some of the best places to go for a stroll in Wan Chai, including city parks and gardens and hiking trails.

Wan Chai Park Recommendation

  • Wan Chai Park: The original site of Wan Chai Park was part of the former Morrison Hill, which was later converted into a park. The park is home to the largest Spider Tree in Hong Kong, which has stood here for over 140 years and has witnessed the changes in the city. Its wide canopy and dense shade add to the rustic atmosphere of the park. The path is equipped with a football pitch, children’s playground, a model boat pool, a walking trail and many other facilities. Each morning, local residents start their day with a morning walk.
  • HarbourChill: HarbourChill is the perfect place to enjoy the views of Victoria Harbour. There are spacious walkways and green lawns for walking, jogging and picnicking. You can exercise here while enjoying the spectacular view of the harbour .

Wan Chai Playground Recommendation

  • Hennessy Road Playground: Located in the heart of Wan Chai, Hennessy Road Playground is a place for basketball lovers. Behind the basketball hoops stands a weathered white stone wall, which is the last remaining remnant of Morrison Hill after it was razed to the ground. The contrast between the historic stone wall and the modern colourful graffiti above it is a perfect blend of history and contemporary art, adding a unique cultural ambience to this sporting space.
  • Morrison Hill Road Playground: Morrison Hill Road Playground is located between Shung Tak Street, Morrison Hill Road and Oi Kwan Road. There is a 200-metre-long cycling track with small slopes, kerbs and mini tunnels, with a lot of ups and downs, which is ideal for children to practise their cycling skills! As well as cycling, you can also practice balance biking and skateboarding.

Wan Chai Hiking Trail Recommendation

  • Wan Chai Gap Park: Wan Chai Gap Park, formerly known as Wan Chai Gap Road Playground, is situated at the top of Wan Chai Gap. The park is famous for its forested fairytale tree house and beautiful woodland trails. Although Wan Chai Gap Park is small in size, it has a pavilion, wooden chairs, refreshment kiosks and toilets for hikers to replenish their energy.
  • Bowen Road Fitness Trail: Bowen Road Fitness Trail is a four-kilometre long hiking trail that connects Wan Chai with the Central and Western District. It is lined with trees and beautiful natural scenery, and passes by famous scenic spots such as the Lover’s Rock, Borrett Mansions and Orchid Valley along the way. The Bowen Road Fitness Trail is suitable for hikers from different age groups, making it a must-visit walking route.
